The Welsh Presbyterian Church in Toxteth is a Grade II Listed former Presbyterian church with a rich history. It was the tallest building in Liverpool at 61m when it opened in 1868.
At the time of building there were 50,000 Welsh migrants in Liverpool, the City affectionately being known as the ‘Capital of North Wales’. The church was a focal point for the Welsh immigrant community being known locally as ‘The Welsh Cathedral’.
Designed by the renowned Liverpool based architectural practice W&G Audsley, the high Victorian Gothic church was at the heart of the Liverpool 8 community with a 1,200 capacity at the height of it’s popularity. The building continued to be used as a nonconformist chapel until it became vacant in 1980.
