Bill’s early work experience was on numerous building sites across the North East of England and Scotland. Eventually trained as a town planner, during the 1980s, Bill worked at Liverpool City Council in Policy and Information, Development Control and Implementation. He subsequently transferred to the Chief Executive’s department working in the Strategic Development and Implementation Unit, working on the implementation of city centre projects such as the Philharmonic Hall, LIPA, City Centre Management and the Town Hall.
After many years in public service, Bill became Managing Director of Urban Splash, overseeing projects in Liverpool such as Old Haymarket, The Match Factory in Garston, The Collegiate, and St Peter’s Church in Seel Street. After 17 years at Urban Splash, Bill resigned to travel the world and embarked on a series of projects in the voluntary sector including Baltic Creative, The Prince’s Trust, the Heritage Lottery Fund, and the Anglican Cathedral Fabric Committee.
Bill is currently Chair of Merseyside Buildings Preservation Trust.
