The Wellington Rooms

Present

The Trust, working alongside Liverpool City Council, completed a series of stabilisation works in 2018 following a successful application to Historic England for grant funding assistance. At a cost of £121,000, the works involved ensuring that the building was wind and watertight, and completing treatment to areas of the building affected by dry rot. This essential program of repairs has halted the deterioration of the condition of this historic building until a new use can be found.

The Trust was subsequently appointed by Liverpool City Council to prepare a feasibility report on potential future uses for the building, to assist in the development of a disposal brief and procurement of a development partner to deliver the building’s restoration. The feasibility report was jointly funded by Merseyside Buildings Preservation Trust, Liverpool City Council and Historic England. The appointment included an obligation on the Trust to participate in the setup and delivery of public consultation events to raise public awareness, and to invite opinion on the potential range of proposed uses for the building. Following production of the feasibility report, completion of emergency repairs and hosting of successful public consultation events, Liverpool City Council have now taken the lead on identifying a development partner to bring forward the refurbishment of The Wellington Rooms.
